As a result of the decision of the authorized representatives of the presidents of the two countries, the case seems to be 99% resolved. The way the case was resolved shows that this can be done by the administrations of the presidents of the two countries, and not by people like Polish Foreign Minister W. Waszczykowski, who was simply trying to earn points on anti-Ukrainian rhetoric.
What does this decision open up? In fact, it pulls the ground from under the feet of PiS propaganda, which spoke only about the problem of exhuming the remains of Poles in Ukraine, and said virtually nothing about the cause of this situation – namely, the unwillingness to restore 15 Ukrainian graves and monuments on the territory of Poland and calling them illegal, not responding to their destruction by marginalized elements, etc. As it turned out later, some PiS MEPs and others were involved in the destruction of these graves.
In fact, the Ukrainian side now has the opportunity to launch a similar information attack on Poland – to demand the restoration of Ukrainian graves and monuments, which may be accompanied by hysterical convulsions of several officials appointed for this purpose for 2 weeks, for example, as we have seen with surprise on the Polish side. Statements by all high-ranking officials, with Poroshenko at the helm, about the inadmissibility of desecrating the remains of Ukrainians. In this way, Poroshenko will be able to restore the balance of the lost votes from the patriotic field and win a little more from there. We have presidential elections in a year and a half…
Such a gesture would not be a manifestation of goodwill and friendship between our countries, but it seems useless to count on it. However, it will show the Polish side that any action will be countered. Sooner or later. And maybe next time they will think very carefully before doing something like this.
