“The Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives, together with EPCM (European Christian Political Movement ) and FICDD (Foundation for Christian Democratic Development), held the second part of the School of Public Engagement seminar series, dedicated to the ideas of European Christian democracy and their adaptation to Ukrainian realities. The event was titled “European Ideas for Ukraine. From Robert Schumann to the Present” and was held on August 29-31 in Zatoka, Odesa Oblast.

The event was attended by 32 participants representing various civil society organizations and movements, as well as independent media, media activists and bloggers.
Various topics were discussed, including the current political landscape of Ukraine and the crisis in the European Union, the prospects for interaction between social and political movements in Ukraine, and value-based approaches to such an association.
The meeting culminated in a discussion of the joint Memorandum of the Civic Action Network proposed by the Democratic Initiatives Support Foundation, which aims to unite various civic political and social movements based on Christian democratic values in order to protect Ukraine’s European future. 24 out of 32 participants signed the developed Action Plan of the Network. It was also agreed to continue the work at the next seminars and to involve the widest possible range of participants in cooperation.
Until the next seminar, scheduled for October 2019, participants will continue to work online and through personal contacts. After the official part of the seminar, the participants continued informal communication in groups.
