“The Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives continued the series of seminars “School of Public Activity” in Chernihiv

On October 18-20, Chernihiv hosted a seminar “Reforms and Democratic Change for Ukraine” organized by the Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives in cooperation with EPCM (European Christian Political Movement ) and FICDD (Foundation for Christian Democratic Development). This was the third part of the series of events “School of Public Activism”, the previous ones were held in Kyiv from June 21 to 23 and in Zatoka from August 29 to 31, 2019.

The seminar was attended by more than 30 participants.

We made presentations:

• Yuriy Honcharenko, Vice President of the Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives;
• Anna Masna, Ukrainian Student Union, International Secretary;
• Vladyslav Vasyl, co-founder of the National Conservative Movement of Ukraine;
• Yuriy Mindyuk, President of the Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives.

The following topics were discussed during the seminar:

• Law enforcement reform in Ukraine. what went wrong?
• Civic engagement in Ukraine. problems and solutions.
• media sector in ukraine. what needs to be changed?
• public control over state power.
• Eastern European reform experience: lessons for Ukraine.
• control of a Ukrainian official and the fight against corruption from below – is it possible?
• What hinders reforms in Ukraine?
• building a civic action network: projects.

After the main events of the seminar, with the participation of the Foundation for Support of Democratic Initiatives, the Intermezzo Cultural and Art Center hosted a presentation of the books Deep Roots by Jeff Fontaine and Postcapitalism by by Michael Schlueter.
