In October 2020, a new educational project, the School of Social and Political Education, was launched in Ukraine. This is a joint project of the Democracy Promotion Foundation and theHanns Seidel Foundation in Ukraine.
Project objective:
- Nurturing the leaders of the new generation of Ukraine
- To educate responsible citizenship
- Foster patriotism
- Encourage civic and political engagement
- To fight populism, oligarchy, and corruption in Ukrainian society.
The project began in late 2020 and was held as a pilot. The organizers educated an audience of about 300 people from across the country and the diaspora about basic political ideologies – conservatism, liberalism, and social democracy.
In 2020, 11 online lectures were held with 191 participants from all over Ukraine. Of these, 46 received certificates of completion.
One of the project’s objectives is to create Ukrainian-language educational video content, and 59 videos have been posted on the project’s YouTube channel.
Interviews were conducted with prominent representatives of conservative, liberal, and social democratic ideologies:
- Serhiy Kvit, professor, former Minister of Education and rector of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,
- Yevhen Zolotarev, a political expert and public and political activist,
- Bohdan Ferens, a scholar and civic activist.
In 2021-22, the project will expand in number and geography. We want to attract up to a thousand participants, especially:
- ATO veterans, volunteers and volunteers as future leaders of the country
- Internally displaced persons, strengthening their loyalty to the country and a sense of family
- Residents of the frontline areas, in order to strengthen Ukrainian opinion on the frontlines of the war
- Young people from villages and small towns of Ukraine, bridging the gap between the center and the periphery
- Representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, bringing them closer to the country.
