The Press Center of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center reported on the presentation of InfoLight.UA’s activities, during which the team shared the results of two years of work and key developments in countering Russian disinformation.
The article notes that InfoLight.UA is an independent research and analytical group established in 2022. Its mission is to raise public awareness, counter disinformation, and develop media literacy. During the event at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, the team also introduced its partners, including the Osavul platform, which uses AI to analyze and detect harmful information narratives in media, social networks, and messengers.
InfoLight.UA Director Yurii Honcharenko emphasized the initiative’s transformation—from a volunteer project to a professional analytical structure—and discussed support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation. He devoted significant attention to the monthly study “Top 40 Ukrainian Public Figures Quoted by Russian Propaganda,” which the team has been conducting since June 2024.
The post includes an important quote:
“Some Ukrainian public figures unwittingly become instruments of Russian propaganda… But for our research, more interesting is the presence of those who generate news for hostile content out of nothing, literally out of thin air…”—noted Yurii Honcharenko, also describing the most frequently quoted individuals in Russian media.
The Press Center also highlights successful fact-checking cases by InfoLight.UA, including:
– detection of networks working against mobilization,
– debunking the fake about Tucker Carlson’s show appearing on “Russia 24,”
– refuting disinformation regarding the evacuation of Odesa Oblast,
– exposing the story about a “coup” allegedly prepared by Zaluzhnyi and Budanov.
A separate section was dedicated to collaboration with Osavul. The article preserves a direct quote from platform representative Stanislav Lurie:
“Our tool uses artificial intelligence to detect organized information campaigns… We enable analysis of sources and message distribution chains throughout… which allows analytical conclusions to be drawn regarding the organized nature of this information or otherwise.”
The team also presented the analytical work “The Machine of Russian Expansion” and shared plans—developing educational programs, releasing methodological materials on information security, improving the technological base, and creating a rating/community of regional and frontline media.
