Conservative Platform

A pre-political project and a national network of influence that has been consolidating Ukrainian center-right, conservative, and Christian democratic environments since 2018. The platform forms the framework of “Ukrainian responsible conservatism,” counteracts Russia’s monopoly on “traditional values” in international circles, and ensures a democratic Ukrainian voice in the European value discourse.

About the project

The Conservative Platform is a pre-political project and a national network of influence launched in 2017 by the NGO “Foundation for Promotion of Democracy”. The platform is not a party structure and does not work as an electoral tool, but claims to have a real impact through ideas, expertise, and agenda-setting.

The project responds to a systemic threat: Russia continues to export to the West the image of a “defender of traditional values” as a tool of hybrid warfare, purposefully promoting this narrative in right-wing conservative circles in Europe and the United States. The Conservative Platform removes this “monopoly of the Russian Federation” by offering a framework of Ukrainian responsible conservatism – where conservatism means responsibility, human dignity, the rule of law, solidarity and subsidiarity, not radicalism or populism. Ukraine is positioned as a bearer of the European tradition of freedom and community, with strong institutions – the army, law, education, church, family – as the foundation of national resilience.

The platform consolidates Ukraine’s scattered center-right communities – experts, scholars, educators, local community leaders, religious and civic activists – into a single network capable of acting in a coordinated manner. The key product is a systematized argumentation platform: policy briefs for international think tanks and political circles, policy briefs, one-pagers and presentations for quick communication, and English-language versions of key materials.

In November 2025, the Platform gathered leading Ukrainian scholars, religious scholars, and public figures in the Red Building of Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv for a roundtable discussion entitled “Christian Morality and Traditionalism among Russians and Ukrainians – What is the Difference Between the Two Nations?” As a result, four thematic working groups were formed: ideological analysis of Russian state ideology, social indicators, historical perspective, and religious dimension.

The key analytical products include a series of “Christian Democratic Expertise” policy briefs with recommendations for politics, economics, security, information space, self-government, and culture, the book “Christian Democracy. Solutions for Ukraine and Europe” and the online course “Christian Democracy and European Integration”. In 2026, the Platform is launching a student essay contest “Why Is Russia Not a Conservative Country?” aimed at attracting a new generation of researchers and forming a thematic field for genuine Russian studies.

The Platform’s website is a bilingual resource (Ukrainian and English) that publishes analytics, expert opinions and reviews under the headings: Anti-Imperial Front, Arms, Geopolitics, Worldview, Ukraine and World.

Why this project is important

A pre-political project and a national network of influence that consolidates Ukrainian center-right, conservative, and Christian democratic environments for coordinated action through ideas, expertise, and agenda-setting.

Russia systematically promotes the image of a “defender of traditional values” to the West as an instrument of hybrid warfare, especially among right-wing conservative circles. Without a stable Ukrainian “platform of evidence,” this narrative remains unanswered in a key ideological segment.

This is a framework where conservatism means responsibility, human dignity, the rule of law, solidarity and subsidiarity. Ukraine is positioned as a carrier of the European tradition of freedom, based on strong institutions: the army, law, education, church, and family.

Policy briefs for international think tanks, analytical notes of the Christian Democratic Expertise, one-pagers and presentations for quick communication, books and online courses with English versions of key products.

The Conservative Platform is implemented by the NGO “Foundation for Promotion of Democracy” with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Ukraine. Some events were supported by the European Foundation SALLUX (Netherlands).
